2022 Dinner: The goods news is that at the moment it looks as if few or no restrictions will be in place for this year’s annual dinner and reunion, and after a seven year gap we will be once again holding the event in the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Ruabon. All of the bedrooms have been reserved for us for the night of Saturday 24th September and are available on a first-come-first-served basis. The hotel has a limited number of bedrooms and many have already been booked.
We had a good turn out last year with 40 Old Boys attending the dinner and it is hoped, that with no restrictions, more will be able to attend this year.  We need the numbers to ensure we can have our reunion on a Saturday evening. Although we had a thoroughly enjoyable evening  and we were well looked after at the Ramada, Wrexham, they would not take a confirmed booking for this year, much to the consternation and disappointment of the duty manager who looked after us so well, when she asked your secretary to book for 2022.

Arthur Clive Roberts: The sad news I have to report is the death of our Honorary President for Life, Arthur Clive Roberts. Clive died on Thursday 27th January with his funeral being held at Pentrebychan Crematorium on Wednesday 16th February. The Old Boys’ Association was well represented, with three participating in the ceremony: the Venerable John Thelwell led the service, Malcolm Taylor read a lesson and your secretary Gareth Davies delivered the euology. Clive was elected Old Boy of the Year in 2020 in recognition of his long and meritorious service to the Association, having been made Honorary Life President in 2017; the only Old Boy to be so honoured. Clive was one of the founders of our Association which he served with pride and distinction and without his dedication in the early days, I doubt that today our Association would exist.

1958 Intake:  The 1958 cohort have decided that as the majority of them will be celebrating their three-quarter-century birthdays in 2022, and before they fall off their perches, they should hold a class reunion. This has been arranged for Saturday 9th April 2022 at the Wynnstay Arms Hotel, Ruabon. Quite a substantial number of fellow 58ers have been contacted but if you haven’t and would like to join in the fun and frolics promised please send an email to: [email protected] and it will be forwarded to the organisers.
